One-pass full-color perfecting


The biggest advantage of convertible perfector is one-pass full-color perfecting. Unlike a straight printing press, no time is lost waiting for the front side to dry after printing, or for paper piling when printing the back side. Printing time, obviously, is cut in half compared to printing both side with two passes on a 4-color straight printing press. This boosts productivity and enables flexible handling of jobs with short turnaround time.


These semi-long or long delivery models can be equipped with a UV curing unit (option) on the delivery section and an interdeck UV curing unit (option) over the convertible perfecting device. Using UV inks or hybrid inks will then allow both sides to be force-dried and to move immediately to processes such as sheet-cutting and bookbinding, further boosting productivity.


Switching between straight printing and perfecting can be performed remotely from the delivery side via the RYOBI PCS-G Printing Control System. Various perfecting device setting switch automatically to match the paper size. These include the open/close timing of the grippers on the storage drum and turning drum, the position of the paper tail edge suction mechanism, and the phase of the turning drum and storage drum. Thanks to this fully automatic device, switchover operation can be finished within 2 minutes without using any tools, contributing to minimum time loss for the mode change.


Rotating suckers of the paper tail edge suction mechanism tightly hold the paper tail edges and pull them both lengthwise and laterally to accurately transfer paper from the storage drum to turning drum. This advanced system enables perfecting at 15,000 S.P.H. maximum while maintaining stable printing quality.

Cutting-edge functions support high-quality perfecting


The impression cylinders that follow the convertible perfecting device use jackets with specially processed surfaces. This prevents smearing of the freshly printed image, guaranteeing superb print quality even when perfecting.


The delivery section is equipped with air guide plates that prevent damage to the back side of the paper when perfecting. Each plate generates a cushion of air between itself and the printed sheets, enabling the sheets to be transferred to the delivery pile, without coming in contact with the delivery section, thus minimizing damage to the back side of the sheets.

Economical efficiency and a clean work environment


Image registration for both sides is performed in a one-pass process, so there is much less paper waste compared to printing both sides with a straight 4-color printing press.


A convertible perfector can perform more work than two straight 4-color printing presses. Moreover, no space is needed for drying after printing the front side, conserving valuable printing factory space.


Both printed sides can be immediately dried by optional UV curing units installed on the delivery section and over the convertible perfecting device. This eliminates the need for powder spray, ensuring a clean work environment.

RYOBI 684P / 685P / 686P

Based on the construction, function and operation of the RYOBI 680 series, these models which are equipped with convertible perfecting cylinder allow perfecting in a single sheet pass. There are 25 different types for the 3 new models from 4-color through 6-color with or without in-line coating capability. The cylinder changeover between straight printing and perfecting is full-automatic by touch button operation from the operation stand and takes about 1 minute. These presses decrease the downtime for paper changing work during jobs and increase the productivity. The RYOBI 684P/ 685P/ 686P increase the versatility because both the high quality printing and perfecting can be done with shorter delivery times.

Equipped with the standard semiautomatic plate changer Semi-RPC, makes the plate mounting fast and accurate. Furthermore, some automatic preset functions such as the paper size preset (option), pull guide preset, impression pressure preset system (option), reduces the paper setting time. The RYOBI Program Inking allows the automatic start-inking and preset-inking and presets the ink fountain keys for quick printing starts. With these functions, automated features and labor saving mechanisms, the make-ready time is drastically reduced and increases the productivity.

The perfecting features the following:


The changeover between perfecting and straight printing is controlled automatically from the operation stand at the delivery section after inputting the paper size. The changeover is completed about 1 minute.


The double diameter cylinder equipped with a paper tail edge suction mechanism assure stable sheet feeding and stabilize the printing quality during perfecting.


2 transfer drums and 1 sheet-reversing drum make up the convertible perfecting cylinder.


The sheet-reversal device is mounted between the 1st and 2nd printing unit (except for 684P)or 2nd and 3rd printing unit.


The 684P/ 685P/ 686P can handle a wide variety of paper sizes when perfecting, including the minimum paper size of 279 x 279 mm.

The standard semiautomatic plate changer allows the plate to be changed easily and accurately with simple push button operation, thereby drastically reducing the make-ready time and improving productivity.


Paper size preset, pull guide preset, impression pressure preset are available. (Paper size preset and impression pressure preset system are options.)


The suction tape feeder board ensures steady and reliable sheet feeding. This simplifies the feeder board setting when changing the paper size because the suction-tape feeder board reduces the number of runner wheels and brush wheels required on the feeder board.


Automatic ink roller, blanket and impression cylinder cleaning devices are available as optional accessories. Automatic short-time cleaning greatly decreases the work involved and time for in cleaning and color changes.


The diagonal registration can be adjusted [ adjustment range of Max.0.2 mm (0.008")] by the plate cylinder cocking device while the press is running.


The program inking allows the automatic start-inking and preset-inking (initially even ink supply on rollers) and then presets the ink fountain keys for quick printing starts.


At the operation stand of the RYOBI PCS-G, major press operations including number of printing sheets input, preset function, registration adjustment, ink and dampening system setting are performed. The RYOBI PCS-G adopts the touch-panel display for the operator's convenience.


The RYOBI AAC aqua automatic control system is standard to save the labor. This monitors the water film thickness on the plate surface and maintains a constant water film thickness during printing.


The optional ink roller temperature control system maintain the optimum temperature on the rollers by circulating temperature-controlled water inside the ink oscillating rollers and fountain rollers.


The optional RYOBI PDS printing density control system measures the color bar of the printed sheet using the sensors in a spectrophotometer. This system measures the deviation between the printing density of the OK sheet and the printed sheets, and then feeds back the data to the RYOBI PCS-G to adjust the ink fountain keys automatically.


The in-line coating unit with one anilox roller enables either aqueous coating or UV coating simultaneously with the offset printing. The press offers a choice of three delivery systems :a standard delivery*,a semi-long and long delivery which can accommodate the dryer system(s) to match the printing requirements. (No dryer system is available for the standard delivery.)


The optional Ink Volume Setter and the Ink Volume Setter-CIP4(PPF) software calculate the image area ratio for each ink fountain key opening volume on the printing press. These make the ink fountain key adjustment on the press much easier and faster by using the prepress data to obtain higher productivity for short-run multi-color printing.
